In visiting www.kickstarter.com I came another interesting and highly successful idea. The products are called the TikTok and LunaTik Multi-Touch Watch Kits produced by MINIMAL. What these watch kits do is turn the iPod Nano into a touch watch. Both of these products were created to be well designed, engineered and manufactured using premium materials.
The TikTok(pictured below on the left) is a watch design to allow you to snap in the Nano, this allows for the Nano to be used as both a watch and an iPod easily. On the kickstarter site a 25 dollar donation pre-orders the TikTok.
The LunaTik(pictured above to the right) is a premium conversion kit that allows users to permanently turn their Nano into a watch. The watch is made using Aerospace Grade Aluminum and is machined via CNC for its final form. The LunaTik can be preordered on kickstarter for 50 dollars.
This kickstarter ideas seems to follow the trend of using kickstarter not just to raise capital, but to sell their products. The project had a goal of raising 15,000 dollars and has now raised 263,708 dollars, or roughly 18 times what they asked for. This simple idea shows that there is a lot of interest in adding to the functionality of technology such as iPods and smartphones.
